Frontstage Magazine: Hello Jarle, thank you for taking the time. How are you?
Jarle Skavhellen: I’m very well, thank you. Just returned from the first leg of the tour and have slept for two days straight.
Frontstage Magazine: Your new EP is called Mountains and Molehills. How did the name Jarle Skavhellen come about?
Jarle Skavhellen:Mountains and Molehills was just one of those titles that got stuck in my head. It’s the opening track of the EP, and I felt that it encompassed all the emotions and themes on the record.
Frontstage Magazine: How would you describe the EP in 3 words?
Jarle Skavhellen: Best EP ever.
Frontstage Magazine: Do you have a favourite song? If so, which one is it and why?
Jarle Skavhellen: A favourite track from the EP? Each one of these tracks are very special to me in one way or another, but the last few shows I’ve really enjoyed playing Shoegaze Moon, and Mountains and Molehills.
Frontstage Magazine: How do you create your songs? Do you start with the lyrics? Or depends it from song to song?
Jarle Skavhellen: Yeah, sometimes I’ll write everything together, but often I’ll write chords and lyrics completely independently from each other. That seems to give me a bit more freedom with the words, so that I’m not always trying to make them fit a certain rhythm or rhyme.
Frontstage Magazine: What are your plans for this year?
Jarle Skavhellen: I’ll be back on the road February 23rd, the EP drops the next day, and I’ll be on tour until mid march. After that there’s quite a few things in the works. Nothing that I can announce just yet, but it will definitely be a busy year.
Frontstage Magazine: Finally, what have you always wanted to read about yourself?
