Frontstage Magazine: Just over a year ago, you were five friends making music together in a basement. Now you’ve released your debut album and are heading out on a German tour. How surreal does this journey feel to you?
Occrasy: It’s still hard to take in all the responses, both positive and some (funny) negative ones. I mean it’s a lot of work behind the curtains, me and Alfonz were finishing the last year highschool meanwhile the others worked 9-17, freshly graduated. So it’s surreal to look back at how much we kept to it and delivered an album and additionaly going for a german tour, amids all the chaos that is being freshly adults.
Frontstage Magazine: Your sound is often described as raw, direct, and uncompromising. At a time when many productions are becoming increasingly polished and digital, why is it important for Occrasy to keep things so organic and unfiltered?
Occrasy: It’s important to understand that although technology advances, we still need to remind ourselves what was already there. This whole perfectionism thing with music doesn’t work, it’s a backward mindset that cages art. Art should not be polish in means to make it ”perfect”. Real music comes from both perfection and imperfection. Mastery/perfection in skill and imperfection in improvisation. Just because technology allows us to remove every imperfection doesn’t mean those imperfections were flaws. In an age where perfectionism is demanded since often it’s in what we now define good product, Occrasy tries to remind people that just because it’s easy, doesn’t mean it’s better. Criticise the plate you’re being served and leave room for more.
Frontstage Magazine: You had Mando Diao member Gustaf Norén as a music teacher. What lessons or advice from him have stayed with you and continue to influence the band today?
Occrasy: ”Repetition is the father of learning, I repeat…”
Frontstage Magazine: After building a strong reputation on Swedish stages, you’re now bringing your music across Germany. What are you most looking forward to on this tour, and what do you expect from German audiences?
Occrasy: We’re looking forward for bringing another wift and new take on rock n roll for more people outside of Sweden. We are looking forward to the food, the places, the energy and naturally the woman.. We expect what we deserve from the people. Nothing more to it, just going to let it happen!
Frontstage Magazine: Imagine you could create the ultimate rock supergroup for one night. You get to pick one member from The Beatles, The Hellacopters, and Mando Diao to join Occrasy on stage. Who would you choose, and which Occrasy song would you play first?
Occrasy: Hm, the Quick and easy answer is no one, everybody is to old.
Wir vom Frontstage Magazine präsentieren euch die Tour von Occrasy in Zusammenarbeit mit Spider Promotion.
