Frontstage Magazine: What was the inspiration behind the title “LoveCop”?
Hannes: Well – as with a lot of things in Royal Republic-land there is no real meaning or idea behind it until the actual song is written and recorded. We often end up in a situation where we have to come up with these answers after the album is released. In this particular case we wrote a riff we liked and for some reason started singing ”I’m a LoveCop” over it. I guess this is what normally referred to as inspiration. In retrospect I think that LoveCop is someone who upholds the laws of Love! A spreader of good times and openness. It’s pretty huge actually, come to think about it!
Frontstage Magazine: What message do you want to convey with this album?
Hannes: We sort of made it our mission to give people an opportunity to forget about their every-day problems. A little get away, if You will. The same goes for this album and I think we did very well.
Frontstage Magazine: What role does live performance play in presenting the album?
Hannes: I guess that differs from band to band. In our case the live side of things is huge. We are a band that has built its following through touring and playing live. We don’t sell millions of albums but we do sell a good amount of tickets. Playing new material live is the most rewarding thing about putting out new music. This is where the music comes alive. It breathes and lives to its full potential for the first time when being shared with the audience. Obviously things don’t sound exactly as they do on the album, which I think is a good thing. Gives You a reason to go see concerts.
Frontstage Magazine: Do you have any personal favorite tracks from “LoveCop”?
Hannes: That changes from day-to-day. Today ”Freakshow” is my favorite song on the album. It happened so fast and organic and it flows so effortlessly between hard-rock and soul/funk. It’s a celebration of life. Life is a circus!
Frontstage Magazine: What emotions do you hope your music evokes in listeners?
Hannes: I don’t wish to evoke a specific feeling in anyone. Feeling something, anything is generally a good thing. But I would be surprised if the majority of the people listening to LoveCop don’t feel extremely pumped and happy after spinning it!
Frontstage Magazine: Is there a specific song on the album that holds special meaning for you?
Hannes: Lazerlove is a big one for us. Musically and lyrically. It’s a big step forward for us and something we never did before. When we released this song we had no idea how people were gonna react while at the same time knowing that this is exactly what we wanted to do. Turns out, once again, that our fans are the most awesome and open-minded fans ever! We love You!
