Frontstage Magazine: Your new album “Everything’s On Fire But I’m Fine” is brutally honest and emotional. How does it feel to bring these very personal stories to life on stage during the tour?
As December Falls: It’s so scary when you’re pouring your heart out into a song. The one hope as a songwriter is that it connects with other people and they can feel something from your music. There’s also always a fear that new songs you write won’t be liked as much as your older material. But this record has definitely been a turning point for us as a band, hearing the fans scream back every single line every night has been an incredible experience.
Frontstage Magazine: You’ve built your career independently with a very close connection to your community. How important is this DIY spirit for you today, now that you’ve achieved chart success?
As December Falls: The DIY ethos has been a huge part of this band since day 1 and I think it’s something the fans are super proud of. Whenever we hit a milestone, whether it’s a top 10 album or playing mainstage at a major festival, they know that there wasn’t some label pulling strings to make it happen – it’s was literally just them and their support.
Frontstage Magazine: Between day jobs, a packed touring schedule, and songwriting – how do you manage to keep the balance without burning out?
As December Falls: It is such a tough balance to keep and anyone who says it’s easy being a touring band isn’t being honest! We just make sure that we’re always supporting and checking in on one another as a band. We’re also the best of friends outside band stuff, if we’re not playing music we’re usually hanging out and doing fun stuff like the four of us went to see Don Broco on Tuesday!
Frontstage Magazine: You’re spending a lot of time on the road right now. Are there certain routines or things that help you maintain a sense of normality when you’re far from home?
As December Falls: We’re all massive gamers so when we’re on the road, you’ll usually find us in the lounge all playing on Nintendo Switches or Steam Decks! That certainly helps us relax and is a good escape from the chaos that is life on the road.
Frontstage Magazine: Your tour took you all across Europe this fall, with many stops in Germany. What can fans here expect from your shows?
As December Falls: We always like to describe an ADF show is just a party that absolutely everyone is invited to! There’s gonna be space to dance, mosh, laugh and cry if you need to!
Frontstage Magazine: We’re proud to present your Germany tour as a media partner. What does it mean to you to have outlets like ours not only cover your journey but actively support it?
As December Falls: We’re always super stoked whenever an outlet like Frontstage support us as a band so thanks a lot for having us!
