Frontstage Magazine: What inspired you the most during the writing process for “Ever-Shifting, Continual Blossoming,” and how has your musical journey over the past few years influenced the album?
Chance Peña: Life was the biggest inspiration for this project. Musically I just went back to my roots in folk music. It’s the music I love and the music I first started making my when I was 15.
Frontstage Magazine: You touch on personal themes such as growth and inner struggles. Is there a particular song on the album that holds special significance for you, and what message do you hope to convey through it?
Chance Peña: “Montana” for sure. The lesson I’d hope people take away from that song is to not drown your problems out. Surround yourself with good people and talk/work through your struggles.
Frontstage Magazine: You co-produced the album with Naebird and Sarcastic Sounds. How was the collaboration with them, and what role did they play in your creative vision?
Chance Peña: Those two guys are my homies. Jeremy (Sarcastic Sounds) is a phenomenal writer and really brought “is what it is” and “feel it all” to life in a beautiful way, it’s always a good hang and the songs are some of my favorites I’ve ever done. Nate (Naebird) helped me find my vision as an artist again, going from the beginning stages where I was scattered brain to the end, having gone through all the ups and downs involved in making a record. He locked in with me everyday and helped me see my vision through even when I felt blind at times.
Frontstage Magazine: You mentioned that you’re excited to perform the songs live. What are you hoping to gain from the audience’s reaction during your upcoming tour?
Chance Peña: It’s just a cool way to connect with people and bring the songs to life in a unique way. It just makes me happy and fills me up.
Frontstage Magazine: How has writing and releasing this album changed your perspective on yourself and your art? What do you take away from this creative process as you look to the future?
Chance Peña: The biggest thing for me is I’m just always chasing the music. Pursuing what I think is cool and inspiring and not worrying about anything else that may distract from the creative process.
Frontstage Magazine: Our last question is always a bit out of left field: Which Marvel character would you like to see on the big screen, and why this particular one?“
Chance Peña: I think every one I know is already in a movie, but I’d say my favorite is Deadpool hands down.
