Schottands WREST mit neuer Single „Keep Going„, EP Ankündigung und großer Festival- & Clubtour! diesem Sommer. Passend dazu haben wir der Band unsere 10 Wunderfragen gestellt.
Frontstage Magazine: If you could trade places with a musician/band for a concert….
wrest: I would trade places with Biffy Clyro and give wrest a support slot. We’re huge fans of Biffy, from seeing them back in the day in small rooms in Edinburgh, through to the arenas they play today. Also wouldn’t mind trading places with The National for a day, purely for the enjoyment of playing their incredible set live.
Frontstage Magazine: If one of you drops out at the next concert, but you have to play, then…
wrest: We’re quite a committed bunch, so we’d know something was wrong if one of us had to drop out…but the show must go on, and we can spin into acoustic solo, duo or trio as required. This kind of reflects how the songs are built up in the first place, so we’re quite comfortable in different formats – though it does depend who drops out! We also have a lot of very supportive musician friends who could step in at the last minute in exchange for a beer or two.
Frontstage Magazine: If you looked at your Wikipedia entry 10 years from now, it would say …
wrest: “wrest are a Scottish indie rock band from Edinburgh, regarded widely as “Scotland’s national band”. Their 7th studio album saw the band complete a worldwide stadium tour, including 20 sold-out nights at the SEC Hydro in Glasgow”…well, a band can dream..!
Frontstage Magazine: If you could host your own festival, then…
wrest: We actually think about this a lot. We’d love to give a platform to the countless amazing artists that are working so hard in Scotland to get their music heard. There is so much talent out there and many people never get the attention they deserve – yet still work so hard around their jobs and lives to make it happen. We could come up with a full lineup off the top of our heads which would make for an unbelievable festival bill, and you’d probably never have heard of any of them.
Frontstage Magazine: If your absolute favorite band/artist would play with you in the opening program, then…
wrest: We would jump at the chance. There are so many bands we’d love to open for, and so many audiences we’d love the chance to play for. If any of our favourite artists are reading this, our inbox is always open…
Frontstage Magazine: If you had to do any job well for the rest of your life, you would…
wrest: For me, the most special job in the world is writing music and connecting with people that listen to our music – maybe just making life a tiny bit better than if we weren’t here at all. If that could become our day jobs some day soon, we’d all be delighted. Regardless, our current plan is to continue doing that as well as we possibly can for the rest of our lives, whether there are listeners there or not.
Frontstage Magazine: If, starting tomorrow, every human being could travel back and forth to any number of parallel Earths untouched by humans, then…
wrest: This is cool, though I’d probably still choose to live in this one for all its flaws. It would be quite eye-opening for all of us, and no doubt influence our musical direction quite a bit. We’d definitely go somewhere different to get a bit of space to write and record, maybe switch off the phones for a bit and just get lost in creating new music a world away. Or maybe it could give us somewhere else to store all our gear.
Frontstage Magazinre: If your biggest idol asked you for some advice, it would be….
wrest: Keep going. Keep doing what you do, and mean it. Be authentic in who you are and what you’re about. It’s advice we try to live by – that if only we believe in what we’re doing and we do it in a way that is true to ourselves, other people will get that too.
Frontstage Magazine: If you had everyone’s attention for 30 seconds, then
wrest: We’d ask them to buy tickets for our upcoming EU tour, and then come and see us at Glasgow’s legendary Barrowlands in August 2024…or maybe just to follow us on Spotify.
Frontstage Magazine: If you wake up tomorrow and don’t know anything about your band in the morning…
wrest: I’d enjoy discovering it all over again. We are genuinely massive fans of wrest music because it’s written for us, so we’d probably be buzzing about discovering our new favourite band and booking tickets to come and see us live. I’d probably also be wondering who was writing the band’s interview questions, reading answers like these..!
