Die Indie-Helden The Wombats präsentieren ihre neue Single „Everything I Love Is Going To Die“, eine beschwingte Hommage daran, das Leben in vollen Zügen zu genießen, solange es noch geht. Es ist die neueste Auskopplung aus ihrem kommenden fünften Studioalbum „Fix Yourself, Not The World“, das am 7. Januar 2022 über AWAL veröffentlicht wird.
Im Song zeigt sich Frontman Matthew Murph Murphy von seiner ironischsten und surrealsten Seite und schöpft musikalische Inspiration aus Klängen und Strukturen des modernen Pop ebenso wie von New Order und The Cure.
„The song is about the impermanence of life, and with that in mind, the beauty of each passing second. Key line for me is ‚Icarus Was My Best Friend, So I’m Gonna Make Him Proud In The End‘, which I guess is a playful take on living life to its fullest even though the consequences of that might be dire. Certainly not a call to Nihilism however, but perhaps a call to being present and the joy that can be found in appreciating each moment we find ourselves in“, erklärt er.
Die Band hat ihr neues Album im vergangenen Jahr von ihren jeweiligen Wohnorten aus aufgenommen und hart daran gearbeitet, einige der fesselndsten, einfallsreichsten und zukunftsweisendsten Stücke ihrer bisherigen Karriere zu produzieren. Mit Frontmann Matthew „Murph“ Murphy in Los Angeles, Bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen in Oslo und Schlagzeuger Dan Haggis in London besprachen sie den Tagesplan via Zoom, nahmen dann separat auf und schickten die einzelnen Dateien an die Produzenten Jacknife Lee (U2, The Killers), Gabe Simon (Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey), Paul Meaney (Twenty One Pilots, Nothing But Thieves), Mark Crew (Bastille, Rag’n’Bone Man) und Mike Crossey (The 1975, The War on Drugs, Yungblud). „It was pure madness, to be honest,” beschreibt Murph den Entstehungsprozeß. Das Album-Artwork wurde von eboy gestaltet.
„We’re so excited for people to hear this new album! We’ve explored new genres and pushed ourselves further than ever musically. It will always stand out for us in our memories from our other albums as we recorded it across three cities during lockdown, and we weren’t all in the same room at the same time!” so Schlagzeuger Dan Haggis.
Nach 15 Jahren und drei Top-5-Alben in Großbritannien ziehen The Wombats ein größeres Publikum an als je zuvor. Seit ihrem 2007er-Debüt „A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation“ beherrschen sie das große Kunststück, stets eine neue Generation von Fans zu begeistern.
