Frontstage Magazine: After a lot of singles, EPs and a long wait, your debut album „Bummer“ is finally in the record shops of this world. How does it feel to finally release an LP after all the singles and EPs?
Ian: It feels incredible. We have truly worked the harder on these songs than any music before and we are beyond proud.
Frontstage Magazine: Why did you have to wait so long for your album?
Ian: We really just wanted to get it right. There has been a constant dialogue between us saying that „you only make your debut album once“. It realy feels like the most important thing we have done thus far.
Frontstage Magazine: What stories do you tell on „Bummer„? What is it about?
Ian: „Bummer“ is a collection of real stories and experiences. One of the main goals in our music is to make it as honest as possible, and i think „Bummer“ was a huge forward step in that direction.
Frontstage Magazine: Between your EPs, your album and your really cool videos, there’s the game „Family Van„. Can you tell us what’s behind it? How does it relate to your current album?
Ian: Family van the video game is dope. I think it really just shows a side of our personality that maybe the music doesn’t always represent. We are pretty goofy a lot of the time and enjoy playing games and what not. This idea was brought to us and we really thought it would be a dope thing for people to do. Within the pandemic we were very selective with our content because we didn’t want to just put things out just to do it, we wanted everything to be engaging and as fun as possible. This game ended up being one of those things we were super happy to put out.
Frontstage Magazine: How did you come up with this great idea?
Ian: It was actually an idea brought to us by our team we’ve been working with for this release! We had no idea we could possibly make a video game. It was then a collaboration of some of our different ideas to make it what it is today.
Frontstage Magazine: What are your plans for the next months?
Ian: We really want to focus on putting out more „Bummer“ related content and give the people as much love as possible, we have lots of great ideas in the works.
Frontstage Magazine: Are you planning to go on tour with your album? If so, any stops for Germany planned?
Ian: We have some tours planned right now with some festivals all depending on what feels safe for everyone. We have a US tour that really seems to be happening in the fall which is beyond exciting. and of course Germany as soon as possible, Germany is one of our favourite places to play.
… And finally, three wonder questions:
Frontstage Magazine: … If a big game manufacturer came up to you and asked you if you would like to distribute „Family Van“ together with them, then…
Ian: Hmm they’d probably have to bring some cool stuff to the table, like really wicked gameplay or something… it’s hard to say honestly.
Frontstage Magazine: … If Royal Blood called you and asked if you would support them on their next world tour, then…
Ian: We honestly probably wouldn’t! we are really trying to build our own thing right now and headlining our own shows really feels like the best move for us at the moment.
Frontstage Magazine: … If Cleopatra was still alive and asked you about your band name and how it came to be, you would tell her:
Ian: Hahah. i would tell her the same thing as i tell everyone, it was totally random. It really just came from a time in our life where we liked to combine words. It’s really not a play on Cleopatra, it honestly means nothing!
