Frontstage Magazine: “Death Is an Open Door” is described as your darkest and most cinematic work to date. Which emotions or personal experiences shaped this new artistic direction the most?
Chrysa: After an incredibly heavy year, writing became the only way I could process what I was going through. Losing my mum was deeply traumatic, and that grief reshaped everything. How I felt, how I saw the world, and how I made music. Channeling those emotions into this record wasn’t a choice so much as a necessity. It allowed me to confront pain, sit with it, and ultimately transform it into something cinematic and cathartic.
Frontstage Magazine: The EP deals with themes like loss, memory, and transformation. How challenging was it to translate such vulnerable topics into songs that remain powerful and accessible?
Chrysa: It was definitely challenging, because those emotions were still very raw while I was writing. I didn’t want to over-explain the pain or make it feel too literal. I wanted listeners to find their own meaning in it. The balance came from focusing on atmosphere and emotion rather than details, letting the songs carry the weight through sound, space, and repetition. In that way, the music became a place where vulnerability could exist without feeling fragile, and where others could step in with their own experiences.
Frontstage Magazine: “Ghost” stands out as a key track and marks another evolution in your visual identity. What role does the song play within this new chapter, and why did you choose it as the lead single?
Jimmy: ‚Ghost‘ was the first song we wrote for this record and it felt like an anchor during the whole process. We wanted to try new things in this EP, like new vibes, different structures and tensions, and even sounds we had never used before. ‚Ghost‘ felt like the song that connected every piece together, and at the same time it made us realise how keen we were on making heavier and darker tunes at this point. The choice to release it as the lead single came kinda natural
Frontstage Magazine: You’re heading to Germany for your first-ever tour. What does this milestone mean to you as a band, and what are your expectations for meeting German audiences for the first time?
Jimmy: Well, this is something that we wanted since our very beginning but we never thought that it would actually happen someday! We are very excited to share our music in a scene that this kind of music is alive and strong, so the first thing we hope is that our music will be understood by people who can admire it. And of course it feels like a huge reward for the work we put through the years that we are finally ready to expose our craft to a really new audiences.
Frontstage Magazine: You’re touring together with Devil May Care. How did this collaboration come about, and what connects you musically or personally with them?
Jimmy: Our booking agency (Spider productions) brought us together with the guys at Devil May Care, believing that we could be a good match for a tour, and they couldn’t have been more accurate! Listening to their music and especially their new album (which is lit!) we realised how many common influences we share, and each band just interpreted them with their own voice. We can’t wait to see how this combo will work live!
Frontstage Magazine: Many fans will experience OCEANDVST live for the first time on this tour. What kind of atmosphere and energy can they expect? Will the dark and cinematic mood of the EP also be reflected on stage?
Jimmy: We try to deliver our live performances as straightforward as possible. In the studio we focus on creating a certain atmosphere that applies more or less in the songs we record, but when it comes to shows a rawer energy feels more natural to us. We are not talking about remarkable differences of course, but we find it intriguing when the recorded and the live experience unfold in their own unique way.
