Frontstage Magazine: Your new album “Sorry For Nothing Volume 2” feels like a direct continuation of “Sorry For Nothing.” At what point did you realize these two records truly belong together?
Cory Marks: These songs are the last batch I wrote and recorded from February 2021 to October 2023, with songs produced by Kevin Churko (Ozzy, Shania Twain, Five Finger Death Punch), Andrew Baylis (Jelly Roll, Brantley Gilbert), and Kile Odell (Nothing More, Fozzy). They can expect a perfect mix and blend of country and rock music.
Frontstage Magazine: You once again worked with renowned producers like Kevin Churko, Kile Odell, and Andrew Baylis. How important was their input in shaping the overall sound of this record?
Cory Marks: They are all very special and unique in their own way and very good at what they do, which goes without saying. It’s fun and easy to work with either, and most importantly they get where I’m trying to go.
Frontstage Magazine: On “Sorry For Nothing Volume 2” you blend country, rock, and metal more seamlessly than almost anyone else. Where do you personally see the greatest strength of this mix?
Cory Marks: I think writing the songs and making the music I want to create and love without being confined by an industry box has allowed me to do that. And working with writers and producers like Kevin Churko that understand and see my vision results in something refreshing, unique, and authentic.
Frontstage Magazine: Your music is known for its raw and unapologetic honesty. What message or feeling do you most want listeners to take away from “Sorry For Nothing Volume 2”?
Cory Marks: I honestly just hope they love it and feel the need to share it with the people they love. I want the music to make them feel something and know that it’s okay to do or try things your own way without needing or having total acceptance of gatekeepers. Over time, with persistence, hard work, and positivity, you will be heard and the real ones will get your work and love it like you do.
Frontstage Magazine: With every release you push your style further. What, in your opinion, makes “Sorry For Nothing Volume 2” stand out the most compared to your earlier albums like “Who I Am” or the first “Sorry For Nothing”?
Cory Marks: It’s just another body of work and songs that I love and that represent me best, just like the other albums.
