Frontstage Magazine: You developed your new single „Cruise“ with the help of your fans. How did this collaborative process feel compared to your previous way of working, and what surprises did you encounter along the way?
ROYA: It has been amazing to involve our fans in the songwriting process! we feel connected to them, and it’s an honor that they’re putting soul and effort into our ideas! It came very naturally because it was on their demand that we finish the song. We just made an idea in the studio that went viral! We weren’t expecting this many people to interact and send lyric ideas!
Frontstage Magazine: Line, you mentioned that the song „Cruise“ has a very emotional significance and is dedicated to a young family member. How did this personal story influence the creative direction and emotional tone of the song?
ROYA: We made lots of different versions of the song before we found out which one people loved the most, and which one to put out. But the one with all my lyrics is about a family member who took an unexpected journey to heaven. So my version of the song isn’t the official version, but my approach definitely added melancholic vibes to the song’s vocal parts. It probably gave it that vibe of always embracing the moment and living while you’re here. I hope people can feel the love and the essence of the vibe without the lyrics.
Frontstage Magazine: You are known for your vibrant and danceable pop sound. What was the inspiration behind incorporating house elements and chopped vocal samples into „Cruise“?
ROYA: We love to follow the flow of an idea, and this was the direction we were led into when we got the idea for Cruise. We often talk about songwriting as riding or surfing a wave. When you catch a wave or a musical idea – you gotta go with the flow. But we really love this electronic house vibe, so we’re excited if our upcoming ideas will take us in that direction as well.
Frontstage Magazine: The reaction to the teaser clips of „Cruise“ on TikTok was overwhelming. How has the interaction with your followers changed your perspective on music production, and how do you plan to continue utilizing this type of fan interaction in the future?
ROYA: We’re so excited to share new ideas and to create with our followers. We have been working very intensively to be able to release Cruise as soon as possible, but we’re so excited to be able to make new music with our new huge ‘band’ on Social Media! We’re gonna do everything we can to include our followers in the process with videos and livestreams and hopefully live pop-ups all over the world.
