Frontstage Magazine: Christina, what inspired you to create the album „It’s Not Me, It’s You!“ and how does it differ from your previous work?
Christina: The inspiration behind creating the album „It’s Not Me, It’s You!“ stemmed from a period of profound self-discovery and personal growth in my life I wanted to capture the emotional complexities of that journey and translate them into music. I hope the album not only resonates with my audience but also serves as a source of inspiration for anyone navigating their own path of self-discovery and personal evolution.
Frontstage Magazine: The title of your album suggests a variety of themes surrounding relationships and self-reflection. Can you tell us more about the messages you want to convey to listeners?
Christina: The title plays on the common breakup phrase, suggesting that sometimes the obstacles to personal growth lie in external factors, whether they be relationships, habits, or circumstances. Change is a constant theme throughout the album, and the title reflects the idea that acknowledging and embracing change is a crucial part of the human experience.
Frontstage Magazine: Christina, you collaborated with various artists on the album. What role do these collaborations play in shaping and developing the songs?
Christina: Collaborating with my favourite female EDM artists on this album was a crucial and enriching aspect of the creative process and this is what makes it so special. Each collaboration brought a unique perspective, contributing to the richness and complexity of the album’s sound. As a singer songwriter, working with other female artists brought an added dimension to the album’s vocal and lyrical dynamics: harmonies, duets, the shared story telling and vocal performances, added emotional depth and variety, contributing to the overall texture of the songs.
Frontstage Magazine: Your music is often described as bold and unconventional. How have you implemented your creative vision on „It’s Not Me, It’s You!“ to maintain your unique artistic identity?
Christina: I wanted to keep my personal artistic touch intact while working on this album. It subtly incorporates experimental elements both sonically and lyrically, allowing for a subtle departure from the conventional. My focus is always on preserving a distinct artistic identity while fostering a connection with the audience. What makes this album particularly special is that it was driven largely by all-female collaborations, adding an extra layer of diversity to the creative process and fulfilling a concept that I had wanted to bring to life for a long time!
Frontstage Magazine: The lyrics of your songs on the album address themes such as love, loss, and self-discovery. How have personal experiences influenced your songwriting process?
Christina: Personal experiences play a significant role in shaping my songwriting process. Each song is a reflection of my journey through love, loss, and self-discovery.
Frontstage Magazine: What impact do you hope to have on your listeners with your album, and what do you hope they will take away from your songs?
Christina: With „It’s Not Me, It’s You!” I want the music and lyrics to resonate with listeners on a personal level, serving as a soundtrack to their own experiences and emotions. I hope that the themes explored in the album will provide a sense of comfort, encouragement, and inspiration to those who may be navigating similar journeys. If a listener can find solace in my songs during challenging times, feel uplifted by energetic tracks, or relate to the introspective moments of self-discovery, then I consider the album a success.
