KALI MASI hauen noch eine letzte Single raus bevor am 26. März endlich das lang erwartete zweite Album „[laughs]“ erscheint. „Freer“ heißt das Stück und kann ab sofort überall gestreamt werden. Außerdem gibt’s wieder ein schönes Video – wie immer von der Band selbst in DIY-Manier produziert!
Sänger Sam Porter sagt dazu:
I like to make up words in songwriting. Words that describe something I’m experiencing that I’m having trouble finding the right word for. I guess that’s how languages develop in the first place – out of our need to connect and to relate. Freer is one of those words. So much of [laughs] is carved out by the pursuit of inner-freedom, inner-peace, how to escape and what it is we are escaping from – and what all of those scary words even mean to us. Freer is reflection on young suburban friendship soured beneath the heat lamp of a city’s setting sun, and holding ourselves accountable for our own states, regardless of how damaged, how tired or how free.
The video was shot on the rooftop of my apartment building in Humboldt Park at the end of the summer, 2020. It was the first video we shot for the record, filmed at half speed with the song playing at double speed to get the dreamy feeling right. We bought $100 worth of Indiana fireworks and used a rope to pull a bicycle up to the roof. I love my neighbors, none of them called the cops.
